It is necessary to understand these basic foundation blocks before you can build on with the more detailed and specific concepts. I used this book my first year of law school and it truly helped me master civil procedure. Glannon anything shy of five stars, I must say that while this book is quite helpful for most law students, some may find it just a bit wanting in certain areas. This book helped me feel prepared, and I was able to get a B in the class! Even going to class was a waste of time. Professor Dodson then gives students the opportunity to evaluate their own work with a comprehensive self-analysis section. Instead I very foolishly went down the road of reading the casebook, prepping for class, expending too much effort on my memo and getting all wrapped up in the day to day hectic nonsense of law school. At the same time, you know you are totally supported by a Teacher's Manual that provides day-to-day guidance for structuring each class, instructions and analyses of every case, and a selection of sample syllabi to choose among. The only thing I would say to people who have bought this book or are thinking about buying it is this - buy it - and use it right away.
